Migration is a characteristic of almost all human cultures. It is not a new phenomenon, but has always been part of European history. The reasons for migration were and are manifold.
The exhibitions under the umbrella of the museum project "Protestant Migration History(s)" depict migratory movements from the perspective of Protestant cultural history. The participating museums and institutions present people who had to leave their homeland for reasons of faith, economic hardship or as a consequence of war. They tell of the cultural heritage of these people, of their opportunities and risks, and of how they helped shape their new worlds.
They explore the questions of how care for migrants developed in Protestantism and what can be learned from it for the problems of the present.
What is new and outstanding about the project is the cooperation of institutions in the source and destination countries of Protestant migration.
Vorgeschichte
2018
Gründung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft "Museen im evangelischen Raum" mit 5 Gründungsmitgliedern.
2019
Erweiterung um 4 Mitglieder. Beschluss einer Geschäftsordnung und Sprecherwahl.
2020
Fünf Museen aus der AG beschließen gemeinsam mit "bildung evangelisch in Europa e. V." ein größeres gemeinsames Projekt im Jahr 2023 unter dem Dachthema "Evangelische Migrationsgeschichte(n) zu realisieren.
2021
Sechs weitere evangelische Museen aus fünf europäischen Ländern/USA schließen sich an.
2023
Joint Exhibition at German Protestant Church-Day in Nuremberg
Exhibition venue: Fembo-Haus Nuremberg (during the Kirchentag - 7 to 11 June 2023 - and beyond).
The exhibition will be a compilation of all research results and individual exhibitions of all 10 project partners.
In terms of content, the exhibition will have a biographical focus and present the biographies of migrants as examples for the respective regional and temporally located research.
Together with partners from France, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania and the USA, 5 Bavarian museums will shed light on migratory movements that have their origins in faith, economic hardship or war. They hereby provide an occasion to take a closer look at the topic of migration from the perspective of urban history as well. To kick off the exhibition, selected objects will be presented in the Baroque vestibule and there will be an opportunity for dialogue with the project partners.

- Eigenverantwortliche Organisation der Einzelausstellungen (Recherche, Gestaltung, Objektauswahl, Werbung vor Ort, Begleitprogramm)
- Wissenschaftlicher Austausch bei thematischen Berührungen (z.B. Hugenotten D/F, Exulanten D/A, D/Ro, Auswanderer D/USA)
- Gemeinsame Herausgabe einer wissenschaftlichen Publikation
- Gemeinsame Durchführung von zwei Tagungen (Neuendettelsau 10/22 und Budapest 10/23)
- Präsenz der Museen und Ausstellungsinhalte auf eigener gemeinsamer Webseite
